SONGWRITING WORKSHOP

SUSTAINABLE SONGWRITING

THE SUSTAINABLE SONGWRITING WORKSHOP   is a 10-week course taught in an intimate seminar format (via Zoom). The overall aim of the class is to instill sustainable techniques that will help you develop and maintain a lifelong creative practice. We will analyze songwriting through a lens of compositional priorities such as lyrics, melody, arrangement, and persona.

WORKLOAD   Writing and demo-ing 1 song a week plus 1 - 2 hours of listening each week, including the work of your fellow students. Participation in group discussion, analysis and critique are expected. Each student will present two songs to the class for critique over the course of the workshop.

Though you will not present your work to the class every week, you will turn in a weekly song for comments.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL    Students are expected to be able to perform and produce well enough to make at least rudimentary demos of their own material on the instruments and/or software of their choosing. The course will meet you at your level and provide challenges, engagement and opportunity for growth from there.

WORKSHOP SIZE    8 students

WORKSHOP MEETINGS    Once a week, for two hours. First hour is discussion and analysis, second hour is workshop of student work. The full group will meet nine times and one week will be a 30-minute one-on-one meeting.

FEE    $375

The Sustainable Songwriting Workshop is committed to providing an inclusive environment for all, regardless of age, gender identity, race, health status, national origin, relationship status, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and religion.
